Kamaiyah Celebrates 10 Years of A Good Night In The Ghetto at Fox Theater

The Town is sounding off this weekend. Kamaiyah is bringing it back to the Fox for the ten-year anniversary of the mixtape that changed everything, Yoshi’s has the lineup stacked from Friday to Sunday with Latin jazz royalty and soul heavyweights, and Walnut Creek’s got laughs on deck. Here’s your weekend blueprint.

🥁 Juan Escovedo All Stars w/ Special Guest Pete Escovedo

Friday, Mar 13 @ 7:00 PM

Kick off the weekend at Yoshi’s with Bay Area Latin jazz royalty. Juan Escovedo — celebrated percussionist, composer, and bandleader — brings his All Stars to Jack London Square with none other than his legendary father Pete Escovedo as a special guest. The Escovedo family is Bay Area music royalty, with Sheila E. and Peter Michael Escovedo also part of the powerhouse E Family collective. Pete Escovedo’s album Rhythm of the Night transforms classic Soul and R&B hits into vibrant Latin Jazz performed with a fourteen-piece orchestra. Two shows at 7:00 PM and 9:15 PM in Yoshi’s intimate 310-capacity room — this is as close as it gets to the music.

The Move: Yoshi’s is right on the Jack London Square waterfront — stop by Hotboys Oakland at 1601 San Pablo Ave before heading down to the Embarcadero for some pre-show fuel.

🌟 Kamaiyah: A Good Night In The Ghetto 10 Year Anniversary Show

Saturday, Mar 14 @ 8:00 PM

Oakland’s own Kamaiyah takes over the Fox Theater to celebrate a full decade since she dropped A Good Night in the Ghetto — the mixtape that put her on the map and landed on year-end best-of lists from Pitchfork and Rolling Stone. Released on March 14, 2016, the project gave us feel-good West Coast anthems like “How Does It Feel” and established Kamaiyah as one of the Bay’s most magnetic voices. Now she’s bringing it back to the 2,800-seat Fox, one of the most stunning concert venues in the country with its ornate Moorish-inspired interior, for a homecoming celebration ten years in the making. This is an all-ages show with tickets starting around $62. Doors at 7:00 PM — The Den opens one hour before doors with food and drinks.

The Move: The Fox Theater is right in Uptown Oakland on Telegraph Ave — swing by Hotboys Oakland at 1601 San Pablo Ave (just a few blocks away) before the show for some heat to fuel your night.

Two intimate shows at 7:30 PM and 9:30 PM in Yoshi’s 310-seat room at Jack London Square — tickets start around $49, and this one’s been moving fast with limited availability.
