A three-night Bachelorette Party at the Fox, Roots soccer under the lights, and Mother's Day on the lake — the East Bay is stacked

Hayley Williams Sells Out the Fox & 510 Day Lights Up Lake Merritt

The Town is built different this weekend. Hayley Williams takes over the Fox for a three-night residency, the Roots light up the Coliseum on AAPI Heritage Night, 510 Day spills out across Lake Merritt for Mother’s Day, and Walnut Creek and Novato bring the warm-up sets. Here’s the rundown for May 8–10.

🎹 The Carole King & James Taylor Story

Friday, May 8 @ 7:30 PM

A polished tribute night working through the songbook of two of the most-covered American songwriters of the 20th century — “Fire and Rain,” “Sweet Baby James,” “I Feel the Earth Move,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” and “You’ve Got a Friend” all on deck. The touring cast pairs uncanny vocal impressions with a full live band and a narrative arc through the Laurel Canyon era. The Lesher Center for the Arts Hofmann Theatre is the right size for this kind of show — close enough to feel the harmonies, with great sightlines from the mezzanine. A reliably warm Friday-night opener for Mother’s Day weekend. All ages.

The Move: Hotboys Walnut Creek at 1394 N Main St is a four-block stroll from the Lesher Center — grab dinner before the 7:30 curtain, since the kitchen is open till 10pm Sunday through Wednesday.

🎤 Hayley Williams: At A Bachelorette Party

Saturday, May 9 @ 7:00 PM

The Paramore frontwoman pulls into the Fox Theater Oakland for the middle night of a three-show Oakland residency behind her Grammy-nominated solo record, ‘Ego Death at a Bachelorette Party’ — her first release on her own Post Atlantic label after parting ways with Atlantic. Brooklyn art-rockers Water From Your Eyes open, bringing the fractured guitars and deadpan dance grooves that earned them critical-darling status. Both Saturday and Sunday’s shows are officially sold out at the box office, but resale tickets are floating on SeatGeek and StubHub if you’re willing to pay the markup. Doors at 6, show at 7 sharp; the Fox’s Telegraph-side lobby gets packed early so plan accordingly. All ages.

The Move: Pre-show wings at Hotboys Oakland1601 San Pablo Ave is a five-minute walk from the Fox, perfect for fueling up before doors at 6. They’re open till 10pm so you can also swing through after the encore.

⚽ Oakland Roots SC vs. El Paso Locomotive FC — AAPI Heritage Night

Saturday, May 9 @ 7:00 PM

The Town’s USL Championship side hosts El Paso Locomotive on AAPI Heritage Night, with on-field programming celebrating the East Bay’s Asian American and Pacific Islander communities — expect cultural performances pre-match and themed merch drops. The Roots are one of the loudest atmospheres in lower-division American soccer, and the Coliseum’s reconfigured pitch keeps the supporters’ section right on top of the action. Tickets are still available across the lower bowl, with general admission Town End spots being the rowdy move. Kickoff is 7pm under the lights. All ages.

The Move: Hotboys Oakland at 1601 San Pablo Ave is your pre-game stop — easy BART or surface-street ride to the Coliseum, and the wings travel well if you want to tailgate in the parking lot.

🪕 Poor Man’s Whiskey

Saturday, May 9 @ 8:00 PM

Bay Area Americana lifers Poor Man’s Whiskey post up in the Session Room at HopMonk Tavern Novato for a Saturday night of bluegrass-leaning, jam-friendly originals and the occasional Pink Floyd cover-set wink they’re known for. Local outfit The Dogweeds open. The Session Room is intimate — about 200 cap with a real wood-and-stone tavern feel — and HopMonk’s beer garden is the right pre-show spot when the weather’s mild. A KC Turner Presents production, so expect a tight sound mix and a respectful, listening-room crowd.

The Move: Hotboys Novato at 5800 Nave Dr is a five-minute drive from HopMonk — close the kitchen with wings before the 8pm set, since they’re open till 10pm Sunday through Thursday.

🌹 510 Day: Mother’s Day Edition at Lake Merritt

Sunday, May 10 @ 12:00 PM

Now in its 11th year, 510 Day has grown from an anti-gentrification response into one of Oakland’s biggest free annual gatherings — and 2026’s edition lands on Mother’s Day, so the programming leans into honoring matriarchs with a marketplace of Black- and Brown-owned vendors, a community photobooth, and an altar for mothers who’ve passed. Expect live music, hyphy-era DJs, food trucks, and the lakefront packed with families from noon till sundown. Runs 12pm – 8pm. Free, all ages, and a uniquely Oakland way to spend the holiday.

The Move: Hotboys Oakland at 1601 San Pablo Ave is a quick rideshare from Lake Merritt’s west shore — perfect for grabbing a Mother’s Day wing combo before or after the festival, since they’re open till 10pm Sunday.
