Memorial Day in The Town: Roots at the Coliseum, Pride at Raimondi & Late-Night Sax at Yoshi's
A 510-soaked long weekend of soccer, ballgames, block parties and jazz across Oakland.
Memorial Day weekend in The Town is stacked top to bottom. Roots SC takes the Coliseum, the B’s run a Pride Night at Raimondi, OMCA throws its weekly Off the Grid block party on the lakefront, and Yoshi’s books back-to-back nights of saxophone fireworks and disco-soul. From West Oakland to Jack London Square, the 510 is running every lane.
⚽ Oakland Roots SC vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC
Saturday, May 30 @ 5:00 PM
The Town’s club rolls into the Oakland Coliseum to host the 2024 USL Championship-winning Colorado Springs Switchbacks in what’s shaping up to be the marquee East Bay sports moment of the holiday weekend. Kickoff is set for 5 PM PT under the late-May sun, with the match broadcast on KTVU+ and ESPN+ for anyone who can’t pull up in person. Roots SC is in its eighth season and sixth in the USL Championship, and home matches at the historic Coliseum have become a full-on community party — fan corteo, smoke, banners, and the kind of atmosphere that reminds you why Oakland sports refuse to leave town. Tickets start around $24 and are still on sale through SeatGeek, Ticketmaster and AXS.
The Move: Stack a pregame plate at Hotboys Oakland (1601 San Pablo Ave) before you head over the 880 — the spot’s open till 10 PM Sunday-Wednesday, so you can also swing back through after the final whistle for a late-night sandwich and a debrief on the result.

🌈 Oakland Ballers vs. RedPocket Mobiles — Pride Night
Friday, May 29 @ 6:35 PM
The B’s kick off a three-game homestand against the RedPocket Mobiles at Raimondi Park with their Pride Night celebration as part of the team’s Green (Fri)Day series. Independent-league baseball in West Oakland has become one of the most genuinely fun nights out in the 510 — small park, packed crowd, beers from local breweries and a lineup that actually cares about The Town. Pride Night layers in rainbow gear, community partners and the usual Ballers between-innings chaos. First pitch is 6:35 PM and single-game tickets are on sale through the team’s official portal at tickets.oaklandballers.com.
The Move: Raimondi Park is a short hop from Hotboys Oakland on San Pablo Ave (1601 San Pablo Ave) — grab a sandwich on the way in or hit it after the seventh-inning stretch since the kitchen runs till 10 PM.

🎪 Friday Nights at OMCA with Off the Grid
Friday, May 29 @ 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM
The Town’s favorite weekly block party is back in its 2026 stride, and the Friday before Memorial Day weekend at OMCA tends to be one of the most-packed nights of the year. Off the Grid lines 10th Street with food trucks between Oak and Fallon, the Koi Pond turns into an open-air bar with beer, wine and cocktails, and the gardens overlooking Lake Merritt host live music, DJs and family programs from 5 to 9 PM. Most of the outdoor festival is free; a museum ticket gets you late-night access to the galleries and special exhibitions. Flat-rate $10 parking in the OMCA garage until 10 PM makes it easy to roll in with the whole crew.
The Move: OMCA is a quick ride up Oak Street from Hotboys Oakland (1601 San Pablo Ave) — pick up a couple of sandwiches before you head in if you’d rather snack on the lawn than wait in the food truck line.
🎷 Eric Darius at Yoshi’s
Saturday, May 30 @ 7:30 PM & 9:30 PM
Billboard chart-topping saxophonist Eric Darius brings his Unleashed tour to Yoshi’s Jack London Square room for a Saturday-night doubleheader — early show at 7:30 PM (doors 7 PM), late show at 9:30 PM. Known for his signature mid-solo jump and a delivery that fuses jazz with R&B, hip-hop and funk, Darius is the kind of player who can turn a supper-club room into something that feels closer to a block party. Tickets are running $39–$79 depending on seat and show, and the late show is a perfect post-Roots-match nightcap if you’re already in town for soccer. Yoshi’s is at 510 Embarcadero West right on the Oakland waterfront.
The Move: Yoshi’s is a short drive across town from Hotboys Oakland (1601 San Pablo Ave). The kitchen runs to 10 PM Sunday-Wednesday, so plan an early pre-show plate before the 7 PM set rather than betting on the late slot.

🪩 That 70’s Flow: The B-Side
Sunday, May 31 @ 7:00 PM
Close out Memorial Day weekend with a full-throttle disco-soul revue at Yoshi’s, where the That 70’s Flow crew runs back The B-Side — a deeper cut through Earth, Wind & Fire, Chic, Donna Summer and the Philly International back catalog. Doors at Yoshi’s open early for dinner service in the supper-club room, with doors at 6:30 PM and the music starting at 7:00 PM. It’s a tighter, sit-down vibe than a typical disco night out, which makes it the kind of low-stakes, high-payoff Sunday show that lets you get home at a reasonable hour. Tickets are in the $39–$69 range. Note: the Yoshi’s site currently lists the show as sold out — check resale or waitlist.
The Move: Make it a Sunday dinner first at Hotboys Oakland (1601 San Pablo Ave) — open till 10 PM Sundays — then roll down to Jack London Square for the 6:30 PM show.
